Egypt's Agriculture Ministry to pump further EGP 323m into veal project
New funds will benefit 2,350 small breeders, young graduates to purchase 22,000 head of livestock
Published in Daily News Egypt on 26 - 07 - 2021

The Board of Directors at Egypt's national veal project, headed by the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, has approved a further EGP 323m allocation for the national veal project.
The financing will go towards 2,350 beneficiaries, including young breeders and graduates, with a total 22,000 head of livestock.
This ensures that the total amount pumped into the project so far stands at about EGP 4.9bn given to more than 30,000 beneficiaries, to raise and fatten approximately 331,000 head of livestock.
Moustafa El-Sayyad, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation for Livestock, Fish and Poultry Resources, has directed for intensified field follow-ups on the beneficiaries of the project.
This will take place alongside providing all aspects of veterinary and health care, and studying any problems facing the beneficiaries.
The directives have been assigned to the livestock and poultry development sector and the General Authority for Veterinary Services, in coordination with the directorates of agriculture and veterinary medicine across the country.
El-Sayyad said that the national project for veal works to provide red meat to the market at a fair and appropriate price for both producers and consumers. It also aims to ensure the balance and stability of prices in the markets, whether livestock or red meat.
He added that the stability of livestock prices and red meat during the past few months was a strong and encouraging motive for many small breeders to apply to benefit from the project.
Tarek Soliman, Head of the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector at the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, said that the national project for veal began in 2017 with the allocation of EGP 100m.
Soliman also said that, at the end of fiscal year (FY) 2018/19, EGP 400m was added to the project, with EGP 3.6bn added in 2020 to raise the total to EGP 4.1bn. In 2021, EGP 1bn was added to the project, ensuring the total amount currently allocated to the national project for veal stands at EGP 5.1bn.
This was reflected in the availability of sound quantities of meat and price stability with the increase in red meat productivity.
Soliman added that anyone can benefit from the national project for veal by applying to the nearest agricultural department or a branch of an Agricultural Bank of Egypt (ABE) nationwide. Interested parties can also communicate online with the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector on the WhatsApp numbers (01558626681- 01558626682(.
