Egypt's Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) and the Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global Group (TAG.Global) have launched the first tablet and laptop manufacturing plant in the Arab region.
The launch of the co-manufacturing production lines for tablets and laptops was witnessed by: Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology; Nevine Gamea, Minister of Trade and Industry; Abdel Moneim El-Terras, Chairperson of the AOI; and Talal Abu Ghazaleh, Chairperson of TAG.Global.
Talaat praised the partnership, which represents a successful model for integration between the government and private sectors to enhance the efforts made to localise the electronics industry.
He stressed that his ministry is working according to a specific strategy to make Egypt a leading regional centre in the field of electronics design and manufacturing.
Talaat highlighted the efforts made by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology to create an attractive environment for world-leading electronics industry companies to establish and operate new factories in Egypt.
The minister noted that cooperation with international companies is taking place, to invest in minds and build capabilities, aimed at preparing national competencies in the manufacture and design of electronics.
He also noted his ministry's cooperation with the AOI to take advantage of the distinct manufacturing capabilities and capacities that the organisation possesses. This comes in light of constructive cooperation with all state agencies and institutions to implement Egypt's digital strategy.
For her part, Gamea stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships with international technology companies to transfer advanced industrial technologies to the national industry.
The minister noted that the project to locally produce tablets and laptops represents a basic pillar to commence manufacturing advanced electronic devices in the Egyptian market to meet the needs of the local market and exports.
