‘Internet Revolution' demands resignation of Minister of Communications
Published in Daily News Egypt on 25 - 07 - 2015

The "Internet Revolution" movement has turned against the Minister of Communications and Information Technology after the recent amendments to Internet prices, and it called for his resignation in an official complaint to President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.
According to an official in the movement, an email was allocated to collect the largest number possible of complaints against the Communications Minister, and raise them to the President in order to demand the minister's resignation and reconsider the new internet prices, as well as the speed of the high-speed ADSL Internet.
The official added that the complaint will include the National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) as well. He stated that both the ministry and the NTRA are meant to put forth strategies for the communications sector, and the goal of their presence is to spread communication services in accordance with the latest technologies, according to Article 4 in the Telecommunications Regulatory Act.
The official believes that the minister has failed to lower internet prices and modify Internet speed according to the demands of the "Internet Revolution". The demands were presented to the minister during a meeting with him last April.
Minister of Communications Khaled Negm revealed, before the Eid Al-Fitr holiday, the new prices system, as follows:
* 1 Mb for EGP 50 with a 10 GB limit
* 1 Mb for EGP 96 with a 100 GB limit
* 2 Mb for EGP 140 with a 150 GB limit
* 4 MB for EGP 220 with a 200 GB limit
* 8 Mb for EGP 350 with a 300 GB limit
