NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka's navy on Sunday night reportedly arrested 37 Chinese fishermen for illegally fishing in Sri Lankan waters, the Xinhua news agency said. A spokesman from the navy, Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya, told Xinhua news agency Monday that the fishermen were spotted off the eastern coast of Batticaloa in two fishing trawlers. Two Sri Lankans were also arrested. The Chinese embassy has called for an early release of the fishermen and urged Sri Lankan authorities to handle the matter in accordance with the law.
