Beijing (dpa) – Three more Tibetans set themselves on fire in south-western China's Sichuan province, Radio Free Asia reported Sunday. One person died and the other two were reported in critical condition after the latest in a series of immolations to protest Chinese rule, it said. “On February 3, three Tibetans self-immolated in protest against Chinese policy at a place called Phuwu in Serthar (Sichuan) and one of them died,” an exile source told the radio. The area is near the border with Qinghai province, he said. “This area is far from the main Serthar county town. The survivors are seriously injured though the details are difficult to obtain due to the shutting down of communication lines in the area,” another source said. “However, they had called for freedom for Tibet and the return of the Dalai Lama.” The report said there have been at least 20 self-immolations since February 2009 in Tibetan regions of China.
