Egypt's Brotherhood wants economy to pass Turkey, Malaysia
Published in Bikya Masr on 18 - 01 - 2012

CAIRO: Egypt's Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), the political wing of the Muslim Brotherhood, has pledged to boost the country's economy and make it competent with Turkey and Malaysia within 7 or 8 years.
Mohamed Gouda, a member of the Economic Committee and the Secretary of the Education Committee of the FJP said in statements that the party has a program designed to achieve “integrated economic development renaissance and turn this into reality in Egypt, so that its economy within seven or eight years surpasses the Turkish and Malaysian [model].”
Gouda explained that the most important aspects of this program are based on the respect for the “full economic freedom and respect for multi-state property and the establishment of a strong state that ensures the protection of competition and prevent monopolistic practices and the creation of basic infrastructure and taking into account the poorer classes, as well as the adoption of a large national project to achieve a comprehensive sustainable development and attention to social justice.”
Gouda stressed, during his participation in the conference with the Federation of Industries, which was held to discuss the economic situation in Egypt during the next phase, that the establishment of security and political stability of the country to create a comprehensive sustainable development, “is required in the first place in order to achieve this economic vision.”
“One of the major national projects that the FJP seeks to implement is the cultivation of 3.5 million hectares in the northern coast and Sinai, through depending on the groundwater, a project which is also aimed at reshaping the current distorted status of the population structure, through exiting from the narrow Nile Valley and Delta and the geographical re-distribution of the population.”
He pointed out that the Suez Canal, an important asset to Egypt can be shifted to generate a “giant” source of income up to $100 billion annually.
He stressed the need to focus on the quality of micro and macro projects, as well as focus on labor-intensive projects to eradicate unemployment, “which represents the first challenge to Egypt.”
