CAIRO: A ferry carrying 1230 passengers caught fire early Thursday morning while traveling to Egypt from the Jordanian port Aqaba. The Egyptian ferry, Billa, caught fire some 20 miles offshore of Aqaba while en route to the port of Nuweiba on the Sinai Peninsula. “Arabian Bridge”, the company that owns Billa, sent two more ferries from its fleet to rescue the passengers from the burning vessel. The passengers were rescued without any casualties and 80 percent of the fire has been suppressed according to the Ministry of Transportation in a press release earlier in the day. BM
