CAIRO: Four leading officials of the executive office of Egypt's formerly ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) resigned and submitted their resignations on Thursday to Secretary General Mohamed Ragab. It is widely believed the move will lead to the dismantling of the party of former president Hosni Mubarak. The officials who resigned are: Mohamed Abdellah, NDP's secretary for Media Affairs; Mohamed Kamal, NDP's secretary for Indoctrination and Training; Mohamed Heiba, NDP's secretary for Youth Affairs; and Maged El-Sherbini, NDP's secretary for Membership Affairs. Egypt's state-owned Al-Ahram Newspaper quoted informed sources as saying that the resignation followed threats by members of the NDP in provincial governorates of resignations unless all of the leaders linked with Gamal Mubarak and the former Secretary General of the NDP were dismissed. The officials who resigned on Thursday stressed the importance of fulfilling radical changes to the ideologies and policies of the NDP, so that it comes in line with the current changes in the Egyptian society following the January 25 Revolution.
