Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry, Lieutenant General Kamel Al-Wazir, discussed the US's Lionsbridge Company's proposal for a phosphoric acid production plant at Abu Tartour Port, on the Red Sea. The project's initial investment is $395 million, with a potential for expansion to up to $3 billion. This initiative aims to enhance local production, boost Egypt's exports. The facility will have multiple production lines. The initial phase aims to produce 350,000 tons of phosphoric acid per year, with plans to double production in the next phase. The project also targets an annual production of 500,000 tons of sulfuric acid. The project will expand to produce sulfuric acid, mono-ammonium phosphate fertiliser, and ammonium diphosphate fertiliser. Solar energy and green ammonia will be used to improve environmental sustainability. The project aims to meet local market needs, increase exports, and create jobs, according to the Minister Al-Wazir. Al-Wazir discussed Lionsbridge's proposal, which involves establishing the project under the free zones system within the Abu Tartour area in coordination with the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI). The Ministry of Transport has pledged its support by improving road efficiency to the port, showing government support for overcoming project obstacles, according to Al-Wazir.
