Aswan is set to receive 12.8 billion Egyptian pounds as part of the 23/2024 Citizen Investment Plan, targeting the implementation of 303 key developmental projects, as per a cabinet statement on Monday.
Highlighting the strategic focus on Upper Egypt, the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Hala El-Said emphasised a tailored financing approach to address developmental gaps. This surge in investment, marking a 35 per cent increase from the previous fiscal year's plan, underscores the government's commitment to maximising the province's potential.
Sector-wise allocation reveals a strategic distribution, with 52 per cent of investments, totaling 6.7 billion pounds, dedicated to water resources and irrigation. Housing follows with 2 billion pounds (17 per cent), while transport, local development, and higher education sectors each receive significant portions.
The Decent Life initiative, a cornerstone of the plan, targets 102 villages in the Aswan Governorate. Moreover, benefiting over 102,000 residents, the initiative aims to address various community needs, including housing, healthcare, education, and infrastructure.
Key projects under Decent Life initiative encompass the construction of residential buildings, social units, agricultural service complexes, and healthcare facilities. Additionally, investments will focus on education infrastructure, water supply, sewage systems, telecommunications, youth centres, government services, and public safety.
With a comprehensive approach to uplifting communities, the plan includes the paving of roads, rehabilitation of canals, and extensive infrastructure upgrades, promising a transformative impact on Aswan's socio-economic landscape.
