Delegation invites Mubarak to Saudi Arabia
Published in Almasry Alyoum on 24 - 02 - 2011

A high-ranking Saudi delegation presented an invitation to former President Hosni Mubarak from Saudi Kin Abdullah Bin Abdel Aziz offering to host Mubarak.
Arab diplomats told Al-Masry Al-Youm the delegation met Mubarak in his residence in Sharm el-Sheikh to deliver the king's message, days before he returns to Riyad following a three-month trip for medical treatment.
The five-member delegation including Ambassador to Egypt Hesham Nazer, who invited Mubarak to perform Umra and spend sometime in the kingdom, according to diplomats. The Umra proposal came after Mubarak's refusal to leave the country following his resignation on 11 February.
Diplomatic sources said Mubarak rejected the Saudi invitation.
During Egypt's unrest, the Saudi king described protesters as infiltrators who seek to destabilize their country.
US-funded Alhurra satellite TV channel reported Wednesday that Mubarak had left Sharm el-Sheikh for the Saudi city of Tabouk where he was receiving treatment for pancreatic cancer.
“Mubarak left for Saudi Arabia a day ago for treatment at Tabouk Hospital as he had been severely ill lately,” Alhurra reported.
Egyptian authorities did not issue any comment. However, senior military officials, including members of the Supreme Council for Armed Forces, said during TV interviews this week that Mubarak was still in the country and that he has not been banned from traveling although his assets were frozen.
