Among the objects seized in the Israel spy ring case--in which one Egyptian and two Israelis are implicated--are a mobile phone, three mobile phone SIM cards, flash memory, a laptop and a bag with hidden pockets. According to confessions made by the Egyptian suspect, Tareq Abdel Razeq, one of the mobile phones was used exclusively for calls between him and Idi Moshe, one of the Israeli suspects. The phone contained messages to and from Moshe concerning meeting dates and some had questions for Abdel Razeq to answer. Stored on the flash memory were email exchanges between Moshe and Abdel Razeq. According to investigations, the Public Prosecution received notification from Egyptian intelligence that Abdel Razeq would travel to China. At 9:30 PM on 1 August, Abdel Razeq was arrested in Hall 3 at the Cairo International Airport. The suspect was taken to the prosecution office in New Cairo for interrogation. When asked if he spied for Israel, Abdel Razeq affirmed he did and said he planned to inform Egyptian intelligence of everything he knew. Asked why he did not actually go to intelligence headquarters with the information, Abdel Razeq said he thought the Egyptian ambassador in China had informed Egyptian intelligence, and that he was expecting them to summon him. Asked if he had given his address to the Egyptian ambassador, he said he had not. Esmat al-Sayyed, Abdel Razeq's lawyer, said she had obtained permission to visit the defendant at Tora prison. She said she wants to discuss what he should say at the first session of his trial. Al-Sayyed said the defendant's family want him to defend himself after getting involved in such a disgraceful case. The Egyptian Emergency State Security Court will begin the trial on 15 January. The session is expected to involve tight security measures and receive intense media coverage.
