The liberal opposition Wafd Party has reportedly begun taking steps to legally challenge the legitimacy of Egypt's incoming People's Assembly following recent parliamentary polls marred by widespread reports of electoral fraud. “We will prepare a file containing all the reports of the vote rigging that took place in the parliamentary elections,” said Ali al-Selmy, president of the Wafd Party's shadow government. “And we plan to challenge in court all legislation passed by the new parliament.” Al-Selmy also said that his shadow government planned to propose a new draft law on political rights and propose amendments to the bylaws that currently govern how parliament operates. “Opposition forces tend to disagree among themselves,” he said. “But if we could reach a consensus on only 25 percent of the political issues, we could really make a difference.” Saad al-Katatny, a leading member of the Muslim Brotherhood opposition group, for his part, said the group had rejected the notion of an opposition-led "shadow parliament."
