Member of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Sameh Ashour called on the Council's chairman Boutros Ghali to apologize for meeting the Israeli Ambassador to Cairo at the Council's headquarters or to resign. In a letter to Ghali, which Al-Masry Al-Youm got a copy of, Ashour says: "We have learnt that you received the ambassador of the Zionist Israel at the Council's headquarters at a suspicious timing. We totally reject this meeting." Speaking to Al-Masry Al-Youm, NCHR Deputy Chairman Ahmed Kamal Aboul Magd said he would try to contain the situation, adding that he is unhappy because the Israeli ambassador entered the Council's headquarters, but he understands Ghali's political position in his capacity as former secretary general of the United Nations. He added that he was at the Council when the Israeli ambassador met with NCHR member Mohamed Fayeq, but he refused to meet the ambassador.
