During his meeting with the chairman of the National Council for Human Rights (NCHR) Boutros Ghali, Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said his ministry and state institutions are concerned with the crisis of the two Egyptian doctors who were sentenced to be whipped in Saudi Arabia, Al-Masry Al-Youm learnt. NCHR Secretary General Mokhlis Qutb said that during Abul Gheit-Ghali meeting at the Foreign Ministry two days ago, Ghali offered his council's efforts to solve the problems of expatriate Egyptians in general and the two doctors in particular. Ghali said he had sent a memo to the Riyadh-based Saudi National Human Rights Association to end the crisis, but he had not received any response. The memo called for releasing the two physicians and adopting the criteria of a fair trial, Qutb said, adding that whipping contravenes the international conventions on human rights.
