Minister of Manpower and Immigration Aisha Abdel Hadi called on the officials of her directorates in Cairo and the provinces to intensify their presence in all work sites, especially in the hotbeds of tension, so as to appease union protests and sit-ins by identifying the workers' demands and the claims of their employers, in an attempt to avoid any future clashes between them. She said in a press statement yesterday that dialogue is the only means of handling protests in light of the global financial crisis, as instructed by President Mubarak on Labor Day. She added that she will personally meet with workers and employers in various provinces to solve their problems, while maintaining all the rights of the workers, whom she urged to respect their duties and commitment to their employers. She said labor disputes must be resolved with peaceful means, pointing to the Social Dialogue Project that the ministry is successfully implementing in cooperation with the International Labor Organization (ILO), which has trained 950 personnel to disseminate the social dialogue culture.
