Traffic was held up for an hour; from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, in Qasr Aini and Corniche streets, as well as Tahrir Square and surrounding streets. This traffic congestion was caused by the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to the Arab League to deliver a speech to the Arab world yesterday. There were no traffic directions as was the case when US President Obama visited Cairo. Traffic congestion worsened when Medvedev visited the Russian embassy in Dokki to meet with the Russian community. During their talks yesterday, Medvedev and Mubarak discussed ways to revive the peace process in the Middle East, especially on the Palestinian-Israeli track. They discussed the Russian proposal to convene an international conference for peace in the region before the end of this year. A "strategic cooperation agreement" was signed between Egypt and Russia to strengthen economic relations and intensify the bilateral political coordination. In a joint press conference, Mubarak stressed the importance of the Russian role in the "Quartet" in this regard, adding that the two countries agree on issues and topics of common interest. Russian Deputy Economic Minister said his country looks forward to sign long-term contracts for exporting wheat to Egypt.
