A homemade bomb exploded late Friday in front of the Mahala police station in Gharbiya governorate, wounding five civilians including a child, Al Masry Al Youm reported. Bomb disposal experts were immediately deployed to the blast scene to scan the area for other potential threats, while the injured were transferred to Mahala Hospital for treatment. There was no immediate claim for the attack. Since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, Egypt has been plagued with a string of deadly blasts killing scores of security and military personnel.
