Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities inspected Sunday several museums' storage areas to investigate the theft of valuable paintings and antiques, an informed source told Al Bawaba News. The sources said that employees, in charge of the storage areas as well as Ministry of Antiquities' officials, taking advantage of their supervisory roles, had stolen original artifacts replacing them with fake copies. A committee of senior professors at the Faculty of Archaeology was formed to inspect the museums' inventories, which contain hundreds of thousands of pieces, to weed out the counterfeit artifacts, the sources added.
