Khaled Fawzy swore in Sunday as the 20th chief of Egyptian General Intelligence Service (GIS), succeeding the retired chief Mohamed Farid El-Tohamy. Security sources anounced on Saturday that Tohamy will retire, due to his deteriorating health condition. President Abdel Fattah El Sisi honored the retired GIS head, by granting him the Order of the Republic of the first layer, in recognition of his efforts. Fawzy was born in Alexandria in 1957, graduated from war college in 1978 and later joined the GIS in 1982. In 2013 he was apointed as chief of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service.
