EGYPT's Enppi and Harras El-Hedoud were shockingly beaten at the African Confederations Cup competition this weekend.
Algerian champions Entente Setif and Stade Malien of Mali clinched victories during day two matches of the group phase of the cup over the weekend.
Entente Setif beat Egyptian campaigners Enppi 4-3 in a Group B clash in Cairo whilst Stade Malien were 2-1 winners over Nigerian champions Bayelsa United during their Group A meeting on Saturday.
The results put the two clubs in pole position of their respective groups in the second tier continental club championship.
Entente Setif, nicknamed "Black Eagles", claimed the vital victory at the expense of their Egyptian hosts to remain on course for their most major continental success since 1988. Striker Ziaya Abdelmalik proved his prowess once again with two goals as Entente Setif snapped up maximum points at the expense of their North African counterparts in the clash that rekindled the Egypt-Algeria rivalry at club level.
Ziaya powered the Algerians to the lead after 12 minutes before Mozambican Mano headed home the equaliser four minutes later from Ahmed Al-Muhammadi's corner.
Six minutes past the half-hour mark, Enppi shot into the lead through new signing Nader Al-Ashri before Fahem Bouazza levelled for the Black Eagles seven minutes after half time. Ten minutes on, Ziaya restored his side's lead with a cool finish before dishing out a splendid back heel that Hocine Metref inched home at 66 minutes whilst Al-Muhammadi reduced the deficit for the host at 77 minutes.
In the other Group B match, AS Vita Club of DR Congo piped Santos FC of Angola thanks to leading striker Ofo Beongeli's effort at 14 minutes.
Entente Setif have six points, followed by Santos FC and AS Vita Club, both on three points with Enppi rooted at the bottom without points.
In Yenogoa, the capital of Nigeria's Bayelsa State, newly crowned league champions Bayelsa United took the lead in their Group A encounter on 72 minutes through promising youngster Osas Okoro. However, their joy was cut short by the visiting Stade Malien side as Coulibaly Bakere slotted home the equaliser four minutes from time and the winner on the stroke of full time.
On Saturday, Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto posted a lone goal victory over visiting Haras El Hodoud of Egypt in the other Group B clash. Palancas Negras striker Arsenio Love Cabungula slotted home the only goal of the encounter on the stroke of half time from the spot.
Haras, making their second successive participation at this stage of the second tier continental club championship, were gifted with several goal-scoring opportunities. On eight minutes, Ahmed Abdul-Ghani saw his goal-bound effort parried wide by Primeiro de Agosto goalie Tubi Landi, and four minutes to half time the goalpost also denied his curling free kick.
On the stroke of half time, the nine- time Angolan champions were rewarded with a penalty after Haras defender Islam Al-Shater brought down an opponent in the penalty area. Cabangula stepped up and converted the kick for the only goal of the encounter at the Estàdio da Cidadela in Luanda.
Primeiro de Agosto shares the top spot of the group with four points, Haras on three points and Bayelsa last without points.
The first and second placed clubs after the round robin will qualify for the semi-finals with the eventual winners advancing to the final.
