Ahly concede another humbling defeat against Dakhleya in Egyptian League The Cairo giants failed to revenge their 1-0 defeat against Dakhleya in the Egyptian League's first round
Ahly wasted a precious opportunity to advance in the Egyptian League table after losing 1-0 to Dakhleya in Group A on Monday. Ahly, winners of the past seven league editions, failed to build on their convincing 3-1 victory over El-Entag El-Harby last week and instead struggled again for a creative and consistent performance. The Red Devils also failed to revenge a previous loss against Dakhleya, who defeated them 1-0 in the league's first round last month. The Cairo giants failed to jump to second place and instead remained fourth in Group A with 19 points from 11 games, seven behind leaders Smouha. Dakhleya currently lie at sixth place with 13 points. Ahly failed to make use of Dakhleya's defensive strategy in the first 15 minutes, never imposing a real threat on their hosts' goalie. In the 19thminute, Ahly striking duo El-Sayed Hamdi and Amr Gamal had two successive chances to put their team on the lead, but Dakhleya goalkeeper Ahmed Fawzy was on target to stop their mission. Ahly players dominated the ball for most of the following minutes but without delivering either good passes or organised attacks. In the 32nd minute, Dakhleya forward Ahmed Farag began a perfect counter attack, passing Ahly duo Hossam Ashour and Sherif Abdel-Fadil to send a nice through pass for Guinean midfielder Lama Kone, who scored the opener with a curling shot. Backed with a tightened defence line, the superb performance of goalkeeper Fawzy continued to keep Ahly away, despite them having many chances until the end of the first half. Ahly didn't meet expectations in the beginning of the second half, showing less activity as they struggled to reach the goal in the first 15 minutes. In a bid to refresh his attacking line, Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef replaced his midfielder Shehab Ahmed with teammate Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet" on minute 64, but Dakhleya kept their lead perfectly. Youssef wanted to keep the pressure on Dakhleya with another substitution, as forward Ahmed Raouf replaced winger Sayed Moawad ten minutes later. Ahly left-back Ahmed Shedid replaced Hossam Ashour in the 84th minute to allow Burkina Faso forward Moussa Yedan to offer more support for the attackers, but the coach's effort was in vain. Ahly continued attacks in search of the equaliser, but all Dakhleya players acted like defenders until the referee's final whistle.
