Mubarak-era housing minister acquitted of corruption charges
Ahmed El-Maghrabi, who served as Egypt's housing minister under ousted president Mubarak, is acquitted of charges of squandering public funds and illegally ceding state land

A Cairo criminal court acquitted a Mubarak-era minister, Ahmed El-Maghrabi, of charges of squandering public funds and illegally ceding state land.
El-Maghabi briefly served as tourism minister under ousted president Hosni Mubarak before he was appointed to the housing ministry in 2005. His family are prominent in the business community, owning Mansour&Maghrabi Investment Company which founded real estate developer Palm Hills Development.
The Mubarak-era minister was charged with illegally selling a piece of land in New Cairo city at a low price to a real estate company owned by businessman Akram Adada, who has fled the country. Adada was also acquitted on Monday.
This is not the first time El-Maghrabi is cleared of corruption charges.
In December 2012, Egypt's Court of Cassation cancelled a verdict sentencing him to five years in prison for a similar land deal, in which he is facing retrial.‎
