Alexandria "police torture victim" family deny withdrawing charges The family of a man who died in State Security custody say they'll take his "torturers" to court
The family of Sayed Belal, a suspect in the Alexandria church blast who died in police custody, denied they were dropping charges against Alexandria's state security. Belal's brother told the local press that although they have been subject to constant threats from the security services, the family will not "compromise the rights of Belal who was arrested and beaten to death." Haitham Mohamadein, a lawyer with El-Nadim Center for the Rehabilitation of Victims of Violence, said that such violence was unacceptable yet “it is not about Belal alone, it is about any member of an Islamic group the police believes might lead them to solving the mystery of the explosion.” Police arrested Belal, 32, following Alexandria's Two Saints Church attack. He was allegedly tortured to death during investigation last Thursday. Mohamadein added that such actions by the police only goes to show that they are “desperately under pressure, with no evidence and no time left.”
