Red Sea declares a state of emergency
Torrential rain and floods bring cities to their knees

Floods in the Red Sea Governorates brought life to a standstill yesterday night, with roads closed in Shalateen, Marsa Allam, Safaga and Hurgada.
In Shalateen, torrential rains continued while the remote areas of Abu Ramad, Halaiband and their surrounding villages experienced a serious wave of floods causing power cuts.
Meanwhile, flights destined for Safaga's Airport were cancelled.
Hurghada suffered most as heavy rains since yesterday evening saw roads being closed. Road blocks were set up to prevent vehicles from entering or leaving the city.
General Magdi Al Kobeissy, governor of the Red Sea,declared a state of emergency in order to use all the means at his disposal to cope with the critical weather.
