Outrage over video showing torture "party" by army and police Activists fear video of police and soldiers torturing detainees shows torture still rife in Egypt
A video of Egyptian police and army officers torturing detained ‘thugs' in a police station has caused an outcry, with activists fearing Mubarak-style torture techniques are once again being widely used to extract confessions from suspects. In the video, three prisoners are shown in a room with twelve police and army officers. Two of the detainees are then slapped and electrocuted by the officers, with one officer repeatedly electrocuting them in the ears. One of the prisoners was also humiliated by being repeatedly called ‘Shosho', a woman's name. The scene allegedly took place at El-Kurdi police station in the El-Daqahliya governorate. Some internet activists have claimed they recognise some of the officers in the footage and that they indeed work in El-Daqahliya.
