Egypt: Public land sale is on freeze Agriculture Minister Amin Abaza says 250 thousand feddans are available for agricultural purposes in the south and east of the country
Speaking to Al Ahram Arabic portal, Agriculture Minister Amin Abaza says 250 thousand feddans are available for agricultural purposes in the south and east of the country in Toshka and East Owaynat. "They are not offered for rent or sale," says Abaza, "No public land [will be offered] for sale before a new law for land allocation is passed," predicting that the new law for land allocation will not be passed before mid 2011. Land allocation was a controversial issue in 2010, with many investors accused of buying agricultural land and using it for real estate purposes.
