Egyptian League race will be on till last round, says Zamalek coach Zamalek Coach Hossam Hassan seems confident to gain the title this year, nine rounds before the season's end, citing their strong form
Zamalek coach, Hossam Hassan emphasised the strength of the Egyptian Premier League this season, asserting that he and his team are determined to win their first title since 2004. “The League champion will not be known until the last round of the competition, but I am so optimistic that Zamalek will clinch it,” Zamalek coach was quoted as saying in an interview with journalist, Gouda Abu-Alnour in Al-Ahram El-Ryady weekly sports magazine. The 11-time League champions are leading this season's table with 43 points. A solitary point separates them from their arch-rivals and title holders, Ahly. “I only concentrate on my matches because our successes will determine whether we clinch the title, not others' failures. We still have nine games ahead and I am not concerned about playing away against Ittihad of Alexandria or Masry,” Hassan, the former world's most capped player added. Zamalek have nine matches in the league against Arab Contractors, El-Maqassa, El-Shorta, El-Geish, Ahly, Wadi Degla, Masry and Ittihad of Alexandria. The 44-year-old tactician affirmed that he is engaged with the White Castle. Alarms were raised after Zamalek's defeat to Gouna two weeks ago, where he iterated that he and other staff might quit. “I didn't expect to lose against Gouna, and what I said after the match was just a result of pressure. I will stay with Zamalek as long as they need me,” the former Ahly and Zamalek striker confirmed. Hossam Hassan also mentioned he has good rapport with his players and he didn't hide his concern over losing his key player, Mahmoud Abdel-Razek “Shikabala.” “Mutual respect is the connection between me and my team,” he said adding “I informed the club board that if they let Shikabala move on that they have to provide a replace for him.” Playmaker Shikabala, the most important key in Zamalek's recent success, is reportedly entertaining European offers; the most recent being English side Birmingham and Belgium club, Anderlecht. The former Pharaohs striker revealed his sadness that the club couldn't register his former teammate, Ahmed Hossam “Mido” in the Zamalek squad after he moved from Ajax. “Mido surely could have helped our frontline, especially since Amr Zaki was out injured for so long,” he concluded.
