No more ordinary players for Zamalek, says Hassan Zamalek's manager Hossam Hassan is satisfied with his team's performance this season, but he claims to have learnt from his mistakes
With two rounds remaining in the Egyptian Premier League season, Zamalek coach Hossam Hassan has begun eyeing next season, insisting that he will focus on signing ‘superstars'. “We will not repeat the faults that we made this season; we failed to sign good players and were obliged to sign ordinary ones due to the club's financial crisis,” the former Ahly and Zamalek striker stated. The 44-year old has informed the club's board of the list of the players he wishes to sign during the summer transfer window which starts on Tuesday. “I've held a meeting with the club's president, Galal Ibrahim, to discuss our new signings for the coming season,” Hassan was quoted as saying by the club's official website. The shortage of resources may oblige the Cairo giants to part with the services of stars such as Ahmed “Mido” Hossam, Amr Zaki and Mahmoud “Shikabala” Abdel-Razek. The latter has reportedly signed a one and half-year contract with Saudi giants El-Shabab for 3 million euro, according to Saudi newspaper Al-Youm. Zamalek's arch rival Ahly is close to clinching the league title with 57 points, five ahead of the White Knights. The Red Devils only need two points from the two remaining matches – the first against the Arab Contactors and the second against Maqassa – to ensure their seventh consecutive league title. “We will compete for the title until the last round,” Hassan emphasised, adding, “I am satisfied by my efforts with a squad currently full of inexperienced players.” Finally, the three-time African Cup of Nations winner, Hassan, has welcomed the Egyptian Football Association's (EFA) recent decision to resume the Egypt Cup in September, but he hopes the tournament will begin directly after the end of the league season.
