El-Maghrabi, Ghabour and Garana face trial at criminal court on Saturday Former ministers and businessmen associated with Mubarak's regime face trial for corruption
Former housing minister Ahmed El-Maghrabi and businessman Mounir Ghabour face trial in criminal court on Saturday on charges of illegally accumulating wealth and intentional harm to public funds. Investigations reveal that Ghabour's tourism company “Sakara for Investment” encroached upon 18 feddans of land located near plots of land which the company had contracted from the Urban Communities Authorities in New Cairo. Ahmed El-Maghrabi, on the other hand, had legalized this encroachment by selling this plot of land in return for an under-priced rate, at a cost for the Urban Communities Authorities and benefiting Ghabour in the amount of EGP 72 million. Fromer tourism minister Zohair Garana is also facing trial on Saturday. His charges include illegally issuing licenses for tourism companies that have illegitimately benefited some businesses at the expense of others. Garana has denied the accusations.
