Egypt's premier Mahlab to quit post Monday Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab is set to resign, though likely to remain in post with a limited government reshuffle
Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab is to tender his resignation today to newly inaugurated President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, state news agency MENA reported. "Mahlab headed to the presidency headquarters after the cabinet ended its last meeting on Monday morning, in which he prepared the letter of resignation," added the same source. The prime minister had said he would quit his post – in which he has served less than four months – once Egypt's new president is sworn in. Former army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi -- inaugurated on Sunday as Egypt's second democratically elected president -- secured a lopsided presidential victory against his sole rival, leftist politician Hamdeen Sabahi, with nearly 97 percent of the valid ballots. Mahlab is expected to remain in office, however, with a limited cabinet reshuffle and a restructuring of provincial governors, a cabinet official has told Al-Ahram's Arabic news website. He was appointed last February following the resignation of Hazem El-Beblawi, a liberal economist who was appointed under a transition roadmap following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. Morsi was ousted by the military last July following massive nationwide protests against his troubled year-long rule. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/103233.aspx
