CAIRO: The Friday sermons of Islamic preachers in Tahrir Square during today's Friday of One Demand demonstration covered topics ranging from secularism to foreign influences to the constitution. “Our constitution is our Quran,” said preacher Hafiz Salama, head of the National Resistance in Suez, speaking from the Salafi al-Nour Party platform during today's demonstration in Cairo's Tahrir Square. “We don't believe in any other announced constitutions,” he added. Salafis repeated the call after him. Salama said the January 25 Revolution that arouse under the country's now-ruling Supreme Council of Armed Forces did not achieve any of its demands, although 10 months have passed since the beginning of the revolution. Salama and the Salafis chanted, “Islamic and Arabic neither Eastern nor Western.” “For all corrupters, I say we have to live a new life because Egypt is not for sale and will remain Arabic and Islamic,” said Salama. Salama called on Islamic candidates for the People's Assembly and Shura Council to unite in order to not give openings for seculars and other parties. ‘Revolution Preacher' and Imam of Omar Makram Mosque Sheikh Mazhar Shahin said in his Friday sermon that Egypt came to Tahrir and will not leave the square until all demands are archieved. Omar Makram Mosque is located at the edge of the iconic square, which was the epicenter of Egypt's January uprising. Shahin's spoke from the main platform in the square, where he called on the military council to transfer power to civilians. Shahin directed his words to the corruptors of the former regime, saying, “You will not succeed, because [there is] no difference between Muslims or Christians or Salafis.” He warned Egypt's enemies abroad and told them not to work to divide the Egyptians. By the end of his sermon, Shahin called on Arabs to unify and to stop bloodshed. Imam of El-Tawheed Mosque Sheikh Fawzy el-Saeed said hope is close to the entrance of the elections. He said the constitutional principles document proposed by Deputy Prime Minister Ali al-Selmy has no place other than in the garbage. El-Saeed also said the military council will not be able to reclaim the money smuggled from Egypt. The prayers raised slogans calling for power transfer from the military to a civilian authority no later than April 30, 2012, not to delay upcoming elections and no to more power for military institution. Safwat Hegazy said there are no figures of the revolution. He said only the Egyptian people and Tahrir Square are the figures of the revolution. He denied reports that he fled Egypt, saying he came from the airport directly to Tahrir Square to participate in the Friday of One Demand. He also rejected al-Selmy's document, adding, “We will not agree unless there is an elected parliament to create Egypt's constitution.” Hegazy said, “We will give the military council a chance to deliver power and in case of slow procedures, we will issue the statement instead of the military council.” Arabic here Arabic here Arabic here
