By Amina Abdul Salam Cairo, April 18, 2018 - A campaign was launched recently to raise the awareness of students about the importance of oral and dental health and its impact on all the body functions. It was organised by FDI World Dental Federation, in co-operation with the Ministry of Education, the Egyptian Dental Federation and the Egyptian Society for Children with Special Needs. The campaign is aimed at teaching children the correct way to keep their teeth clean. Statistics have shown that 90 per cent of the world's population suffers from mouth disease. Dr Nahawand Thabet, member of the Egyptian Dental Syndicate, pointed out that the campaign was aimed at easing the burden of the state budget. "The campaign has been targeting school children, since spreading good mouth and teeth habits at a young age has a positive effect, not only on health but on all aspects of life," she said. According to reports issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the average rate of using equipment for the care of the mouth and teeth in Egypt was 67 per cent and that reflects a high degree of awareness in Egyptian society of the importance of having a healthy mouth and teeth.
