KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia customs reported o Monday they had confiscated some RM58 million ($18 million) in the largest drug bust the country has seen in a decade. According to the customs department, the drugs had been attempted to be smuggled into the country in a shipping container from India. Customs official Matrang Suhaili told The Associated Press that they found “just under three million nimetazepam pills. The sedative is sometimes used to reduce the effect of methamphetamine and other stimulants.” Drug smuggling and the use of drugs in Malaysia is illegal and if convicted, criminals face the death penalty. Another official told Bikyamasr.com that four Malaysians and a Bangladeshi have been arrested in connection with the shipping crate where the drugs were found. It is unclear what charges they will face, but police said they were investigating the matter to put together the complete picture.
