The Malaysian government have arrested two German nationals for allegedly attempting to smuggle illegal drugs into the country. If convicted, the mandatory penalty for their crime would be death, the country's customs department said on Tuesday. According to local reports, the two Germans and a Moroccan national were arrested upon arrival at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on January 1, arriving from Istanbul. One source told German press agency dpa that they found more than 10 kilograms of methamphetamine hydrochloride in their luggage. The German embassy in the country has yet to issue a statement on the arrests. The two Germans were among six foreigners arrested in the first two weeks of January for attempting to smuggle drugs into Malaysia.
