Cairo - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Tuesday former German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder to discuss progress achieved in a project to dig tunnels underneath the Suez Canal, to which Herrenknecht, a German company, is contributing. Sisi was pleased with the commitment of the German company, which is working in line with a pre-set timetable, said presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef. The president also praised relations with Berlin, especially after Chancellor Angela Merkel's recent visit to Cairo, Youssef added. Egypt is keen on boosting bilateral cooperation with Germany, particularly in the economic field, Sisi was quoted as having said. Youssef said that Schroeder was happy to visit Egypt again and was pleased with positive developments in the Arab country.
