The Egyptian army killed 16 Wilayat Sinai militants and injured four others in North Sinai's Sheikh Zuweid city, Al Bawaba News reported Sunday. Security source said that the army had conducted a pre-emptive airstrike on Wilayat Sinai in Sheikh Zuweid to thwart an attempt to attack the army on Sunday, pointing out that the army killed 16 militants as well as destroying vehicles and motorcycles. Since September 2013, the Egyptian army has been carrying out an ongoing military campaign against Wilayat Sinai, formerly known as Ansar Bayt Al Maqdis, after it claimed responsibility for several deadly attacks targeting Egyptian military and police personnel.
