Egypt and Uganda have signed on Wednesday a military intelligence sharing agreement to combat terrorism at the headquarters of the Ugandan military intelligence in Mbuya. According to a statement by the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), the agreement was signed between UPDF's Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) and the Egyptian Military Intelligence Department. "The fact that Uganda and Egypt share the Nile, cooperation between the two countries is inevitable because what affects Ugandans will in one way or other affect Egypt," Maj. Gen. Sameh Saber El-Degwi, a top Egyptian Military Intelligence Department official who headed Cairo's delegation to Kampala, was quoted in the UPDF statement as saying. Maj Gen Abel Kandiho, Uganda's Chief of Military Intelligence, who signed on behalf of the agency noted that the agreement will see the two countries' agencies share resourceful intelligence on a regular basis which is key in combating terrorism, among other crimes. He thanked the Egyptian government for the support rendered to the Ugandan Army's training. The Egyptian delegation had arrived in Uganda on 4 April for a four-day visit.
