Clearing negative energy
Published in Ahram Online on 23 - 02 - 2021

Do you find things turning out bad for no apparent reason? Or do you feel down or fall sick way too often? Do you sense that you're unmotivated and suffer from a lack of energy, either physically or mentally? Or feel angry and on edge most of the time or even dislike others more than you used to? Do you find difficulties in concentration or that your sleep is restless?
Don't worry – these things can be because of the negative energy that is circulating in your living space. This negative energy can accumulate in homes over time and cause sometimes irreparable damage to their occupants.
Luckily, it's possible to detect the negative energy that can build up in your home and get rid of it.
Here are some signs of negative energy in a house and how to cleanse it and bring back vitality, joy and peace.
Cluttered spaces:
Dirt, clutter and accumulated unwanted things like old and unwearable clothes, old newspapers or anything that we no longer use can help to trap negative energy. We pass on our energy to objects we own and use, and our energy remains in these objects. This sort of stored-up energy can affect us differently and cause physical, mental and spiritual disruptions.
De-cluttering is the solution. Cluttered space leads to cluttered thoughts, so get rid of things that no longer serve you. Clean regularly and organise to get rid of negative energy.

Broken objects:
Broken things have negative energy in them as they are no longer useful. So, forget about broken items and either learn to live without them or buy new ones. If they can be fixed, get them back to working condition. Maintenance is the key word, as things around the home need to be maintained in a clean and workable condition if they are not to accumulate negative energy.

Stagnant places:
Dark and stagnant places are breeding grounds for negative energy. The air inside tends to retain some of the negative energy of its occupants. So, allowing fresh air in will clear the stagnant air inside. The ventilation of living spaces is vital for physical as well as spiritual well-being. So, open windows and doors. Let the sunlight and fresh air in to allow the negative energy to escape.

Dusty furniture:
As time passes, furniture can look dusty, dirty, dull and worn-out with stains or bad smells. These are all signs that the furniture is absorbing negative energy from inhabitants. Periodical cleaning is the only way to bring furniture back to its original glory and get rid of its bad energy.
Rearrange your furniture in a way that makes you home as inspiring and spiritually nourishing as possible while making it easier to navigate. Fill your space with things that bring you joy to raise positive energy. Crystals, essential oils and bells can also help in getting rid of the negative energy in the house.

Bad odours:
A lasting awful smell inside the house for days or weeks at a time is a sign of negative energy. Airing and cleaning the home thoroughly can help get rid of bad odours. At times, these methods may not be enough to eliminate the bad odour completely. Therefore, burning sage, scented candles, diffusing essential oils like eucalyptus, mint, orange, lemongrass and lavender or using an air spray may help to invite positive energy into your home.

Insomnia:
The inability to sleep or not feeling rested after sleeping is a classic sign of negative energy in a house. Remove anything that is over-stimulating from view when you rest in bed. Mirrors and a television in the bedroom are believed to have negative connotations. Remove them if possible, or else keep them under wraps when not in use. Airing out your bedding helps to remove any negative energy that has been stagnating in it.
