Egyptian businessman Farag Amer denies Premier League interest Smouha president Farag Amer tells Ahram Online that he is not interested in buying one of the English Premier League clubs
Egyptian businessman Mohamed Farag Amer has denied recent reports claiming that he is interested in buying one of the English Premier League clubs. Earlier on Monday, a report on Skysports claimed that food tycoon Amer is exploring the option to buy a Premier League club as the likes of Aston Villa and Hull City are both actively looking for new owners. Ahram Online reached Amer on a phone call where he denied the whole matter, insisting that he is solely concentrated on local industrial investments. "These are just rumors. I know some of the presidents of the Premier League clubs but it is just a personal relationship," Amer explained. "I am proud to be an Egyptian self-made businessman and I have no plans to work outside Egypt. "I am not interested at all to invest in sports and I am satisfied with my current role as Smouha president," he added. Amer owns one of the biggest and most diverse food company in the country, the Faragello group. He entered football world when he was elected as the president of Alexandria-based club Smouha in 1998, a fourth division team that time. Under his guidance, Smouha reached Egypt's Premier League for the first time in the 2010-2011 season. Last season, Smouha finished as runners-up of the Egyptian league boasting some of the most notable talents in the country, including Basel's new signing Ahmed Hamoudi. Premier League side Hull City is already owned by Egyptian businessman Assem Allam.
