DAMIETTA, Egypt: The April 6 Movement in Damietta in the Nile Delta distributed a list revealing the names of remnants of Egypt's former regime who intend to run in upcoming parliamentary elections. The statement includes the names of former National Democratic Party members who have submitted their nomination for parliamentary elections either on a party list or as independents. Candidates from the electoral list of the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Freedom and Justice Party are included in the statement. The statement says Galal al-Alfy is at the top of the FJP's workers list for Damietta. Al-Alfy was formerly a parliamentarian in Kafr Saad district for the NDP. The statement also includes names of candidates from the conservative Mohafzen Party, the Egypt National Party, and the Reform and Development Party. The statement ended with the slogan, "Your own voice is your own future." It urged people not to elect remnants of the former regime to parliament, as this would be “treason.” The statement comes as part of April 6's ‘White and Black Circles' campaign to identify members of the former regime who intend to run for parliament. November 28 will see the first round of elections for the People's Assembly, the lower house of Egypt's bicameral parliament. It is Egypt's first election since a popular uprising toppled the country's three-decade leader and his regime from power earlier this year.
