Many of the tribal chiefs who participated recently in the “Egyptian Personalities” Festival today agreed that the January 25 Revolution did not contribute positively to the present moment, and that while the figures changed the oppressive regime did not. “Many governors will not sign any calls because they are waiting for the parliamentary and presidential elections,” the chiefs said. “The Northern Sinai residents benefited from the revolution because they both owned land and were given access to South Sinai after being banned by security forces,” a Northern Sinai tribal Sheikh said. “The security forces always used to accuse us of treason and terror without investigating,” tribal sheikh Suleiman Salem said. “Northern Sinai tribes secured Egyptian borders during the revolution, which led to better treatment from the security forces,” he added. “The military council's decision about repatriation of Nubians to the banks of the Nile is illegitimate because there is no parliament,” said Nubian tribal chief Awad Markeb. “The Nubian people hope that the revolution helps to secure their rights along with other Egyptians,” he said. “There are many bonds with the Nubian people in Sudan and other Nile Basin countries, and giving rights to the Nubian people will not create problems with these nations,” he added.
