CAIRO: Nominations for the Egyptian parliamentary elections kicked off on Wednesday. The Electoral Committees are receiving requests for nominations for seats in the People's Assembly and the Shura Council. These requests must be received according to the principles announced by the High Electoral Committee (HEC), chaired by Abdel Moneim Ibrahim. The Electoral Committees' headquarters will be in the courts of different governorates, like New Cairo, Giza, Alexandria and others. The deadline to receive such requests is October 18. The HEC allows the candidates' deputies to submit nomination requests on official, notarized Attorney General papers. The HEC prepared four samples of forms for nomination. The first is for individuals running for seats in the People's Assembly; the second is for Proportional Representation lists in the People's Assembly; the third is for individuals for the Shura Council; and the fourth is for PR lists for the Shura Council. The parliamentary candidate shall: • Submit a ratified photocopy of party's list in which the name listed • Pay 1,000 EGP (U.S. $167.57) to the Court • Submit a photocopy of the Candidate's ID or an electronic Certificate of Birth • Submit a photocopy of education qualifications • Submit a Certificate of Recruitment Farmer candidates must submit documents proving the identity as such, and must provide an official document showing possession of land not above 10 acres. Farming must be the candidate's only job and the candidate must live in a rural area. The number of Egyptian parliamentary candidates on Wednesday reached 44 in the first day of nominations. The High Electoral Committee saw a great number of women candidates compared to the men and youth amid the intensified presence of journalists and reporters.
