Security forces broke up protests in downtown Cairo Sunday evening, after multiple clashes erupted between military police and Coptic Christians protesting sectarian violence in Upper Egypt and Muslims that have joined the protestors in solidarity. Military police fired tear gas at the protestors after clashes erupted in Abdel Moneim Reyad Square and near Maspero, a building that hosts several Egyptian television stations. Military police are currently chasing the protesters in Abdel Moneim Reyad square and on the 6 October Bridge, preventing them from approaching Maspero. Demonstrators from at least one march from the North Cairo neighborhood of Shubra joined protestors. Ambulances arrived to transfer wounded to hospitals. Christians told Youm7 they blame the army for the crackdown, saying they are firing upon Christians but not Muslims. They also told Youm7 that they are not calling for international protection.
