CAIRO: The Egyptian Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) will issue a decision within 72 hours to cancel the Emergency Law on October 12, said the Chairman of the Salafi Party, el-Nour (The Light), Emad Abdel Ghafour. The cancellation of the Law would coincide with the first day of parliamentary elections. Sources confirmed that the SCAF decided to cancel Article 5 of the Electoral Law, upon request from political parties that met with the SCAF and Egyptian Chief of Staff Sami Enan. Article 5 provides that any independent candidate running for elections for Parliament shall not belong to any political party. If independent candidates join any political party, his membership may be withdrawn by a two-thirds majority of the People's Assembly.
