CAIRO: The Egyptian presidential elections will not be held mid next year, said a member of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) Mamdouh Shaheen. SCAF is not greedy to keep running control in Egypt, he added during a phone call to ‘Here the Capital' TV program. The Supreme Electoral Committee will announce the opening of election nominees on October 12, with the announcement of all measures and provisions passed to the candidates. Regarding putting the supra-constitutional articles in the new constitution, which shall be amended after the end of the parliamentary elections, Shaheen said by consideration of all Egyptian constitutions of 1970, 1971, and 1953, 24 articles are considered supra-articles and the new constitution shall not amend them. The Constitutional Declaration was published in a state-run newspaper on September 25, he noted. “SCAF does not practice duties in secret as some people think,” Shaheen said. “Whoever made this declaration is complementary to the constitutional declaration published on March 30.” As for the, six-month period of choosing the formation of the committee for putting the constitution, he said this period will not be extended because the article no. 60 provides choosing the formation committee will be done within a week after holding the first session of the Peoples' Assembly. He continued the period of presidential elections can be shortened, which means elections could start before mid 2012.
