Port Said teachers and parents today clashed at the Egyptian El Qana School in the El Sharq district, forcing military and police forces to intervene to prevent escalation. The two sides started fighting after parents attempted to open classes despite a teachers strike. The strike began yesterday and spread across many Egyptian governments. Clashes erupted after teachers refused to open classrooms. The military forces convened inside the hallway of the school and advised the teachers to return to classes and open the new year. The teachers however refused this request and continued their protest amidst the parents' fury.
