Members of the Public Administration of the Private Police Guard today staged a demonstration outside the Egyptian Ministry of the Interior to protest a recent decision to limit work hours to eight hours and one day off per week instead of the original schedule of 16 hours and three days off per week. One of the protestors said that members of the security force are not protesting simply for better work hours, but also generally against the unstable situation in Cairo. He mentioned that many members of the force live far outside of Cairo, which puts them at risk for attack, particularly when some Egyptians already despise such members. Other members complained of mistreatment from bosses and low pay. Members claim they make only 850 EGP per month (U.S. $143) and transportation alone costs 600 EGP per month (U.S. $101). Members from the Ministry of the Interior agreed to meet with a delegation of the protestors to negotiate an end to the demonstration and work on a solution to the wage and lawlessness crisis.
