The addition of Egyptian troop deployments in the Sinai Peninsula will continue in coming days and the peace treaty with Israel should be renegotiated, said General Ismail Etman, member of the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF). Etman told Youm7 that the military's main mission is to secure Egyptian borders and confront any foreign attack targeting Egyptian territory. Etman said that the military would increase the amount of Egyptian troops, armored vehicles and border guards in the Sinai Peninsula. The Israeli government has not objected to such an increase, according to Etman. The SCAF official warned that there are extremist elements working to drive a wedge between the military and the residents of Sinai. Etman said the Camp David treaty should be amended, but in the framework of an agreement between two sides. He continued that Egypt would be a civil state in the next year, requesting that the Egyptian people cooperate with the Armed Forces, the Egyptian government, and the Interior Ministry to pave the way for democracy. Etman added that officials should work to achieve the legal demands of the people. Etman praised the Interior Ministry, who returned police to the streets, requesting that the Egyptian people cooperate with police to control the streets and to restore the state of security. The General said that the government has drafted a plan to develop the Sinai Peninsula, highlighting the necessity of restoring security in Sinai before focusing on development there. Etman requested that Egyptian citizens in Sinai cooperate with the military to eradicate extremist elements seeking to destabilize the area. Finally, Etman congratulated the Egyptian people hoping that the country will restore security and stability in coming days.
