Dozens of citizens and activists scattered about Cairo's Tahrir Square shouted slogans on the first day of Eid al-Fitr, despite a large security presence in the square since demonstrations were forcibly dispersed at the beginning of Ramadan. The 6 April Movement and the families those killed during the January 25 Revolution protested around Tahrir Square, demanding punishment for of those responsible for the death of the protestors. Protestors began chanting slogans against preacher Safwat Hegazy, after he gave a sermon from in the square that supported the Armed Forces and the police. Hegazy stressed the importance of the unity of Egyptian Muslims and Christians in his speech and led people to repeat the slogan “One hand.” Hegazy said that the stage does not belong to a particular group, but to any group, whether the Muslim Brotherhood, liberals, or Salafists.
